Tour around
British Columbia & Alberta

6th September - 25th September 2008

Date: 06.09.2008
Berlin/Frankfurt (Main)/Vancouver

Dear diary,
I am starting the report about my wonderful big journey around British Columbia and Alberta.

First flight: Berlin-Tegel – Frankfurt (Main)
Duration: 50 minutes

We had a very pleasant flight. The weather was sunny and bright, and we arrived on schedule.

As we had our entire luggage checked in directly to Vancouver, we had a very relaxing time at the airport. Because huge terminal parts were under construction, we had a very long walk to absolve to reach the departure terminal B.

The flight to Vancouver has been set to ‘delayed’ on the schedule. Well, this gave us two hours more waiting time.

We were travelling business class. Therefore we could use the ‘Business Lounge’ services. Very nice experience! This was the first time we could treat ourselves with this luxury.

Daddy found us a comfy place with a good view of the airport’s runways. As it was self service, the humans helped themselves with some delicious snacks and a nice glass of white wine. They finished their lunch with an espresso and some sweets (the cookies were nice, I had some, too).

Second flight: Frankfurt (Main) / Vancouver
Duration: 9 hours

As time went by we started that long way back to the terminal gate. But surprise, surprise! The departure time has been changed again as well as the gate number.

In the end we made it to the right room… and so did all other passengers for our flight, too. That meant: all seats were taken! We had another walk around, and then the buses arrived at the gate. We hopped on and a slow ride brought us to our aircraft, a Boeing 767.

Upstairs a friendly welcome from the crew and we were seen to our places in the first row. What luxurious seats! Humans had never seen those comfortable seats before; you could even lie back as in your own bed.

Blankets, pillows and even your own slippers were ready for your use. I came out off the back pack and mum covered me into the soft blanket. Luxury! Pure luxury, even for me!

Before the plane started, a glass of champagne was served…I sipped at daddy’s…hick!

I had a wonderful view of the scenery, as I was sitting on the armrest next to the window.

After a while the menus were handed out to us. Very delicious sounding dinner for choice. Again pure luxury: a dark red, fresh rose decorated the white linen and the bone chine porcelain! The dinner was excellent, and after the espressos and the sweets we had enough.

We watched two movies and from time to time we had a look down to the scenery. We flew across the Hudson Bay and saw drifting icebergs. Very impressive!

About 2 hours before landing in Vancouver a little snack were offered, but the humans had to refuse. They had too much!

We approached to our destiny Vancouver with a loop across the Frazer River. The sun was shining, and therefore we had a terrific overall view over Vancouver.

When we entered the terminal building we thought we were dreaming: thousands of people were waiting to enter Canada! Because of several delays, ten planes were landed at the same time! People from around the world were waiting with us in a huge hall. We waited in row after row about 1 ½ hours! In the end we had entered Canada and our trunk was already waiting.

The local travel agency welcomed us and we entered the transfer busses to our booked hotels. Because we caught the rush hour, it took quite a long time to reach our hotel in downtown Vancouver.

The tour guide awaited us in the lobby of ‘The Pacific Palisades’ handed the keys and the papers for the trip over to us and we went with the elevator to our room’s door.

The key wasn’t a normal key; it was a magnetic card for door opening. Daddy tried, tried, tried … became more and angry…mum tried, too! But no chance to open the door! The humans called each other ‘silly’ and their nerves were not in the best condition. Daddy took the elevator down while mum and me were waiting and talking to an American lady.

The solution has been quite simple: the hotel forgot to renew the magnetic code for us! In the end everybody became satisfied and we did it!

After a bit changing of their clothes the humans went down to the restaurant and had a light snack:

Caesar’s salad and scallops and as beverage some beer.
We went to bed immediately afterwards. And then the beary sound of snoring filled the air.

Chrchhhhh……..
